Charles Thomson’s Double Standards on Racism

Charles Thomson's Double Standards

When I made my first post on Charles Thomson, and his glaring factual inaccuracies about Leaving Neverland, I had very little knowledge about who he was, or what he was really about. Yes, I knew he was a Michael Jackson stan, but even by obsessive fan standards, this 30-something-year-old is scary in his defence of Jacko.

Back in December 2019, I questioned him about his appearance in Danny Wu’s Square One, where he himself regurgitates the dubious story that Evan Chandler drug his son Jordan with the potentially lethal sodium Amytal to implant false memories of child sex abuse. Instead of being met with an intelligent reply, as you would expect from any journalist, I was encouraged to believe that the entire police force in California was crooked and it was really “Satanic Panic” behind the allegations.

Charles Thomson is a regular user of Twitter, in fact, I would bet that he spends most of his days and nights on the platform. Last year, I came a tweet from @BillsTVTalk, who pointed out that another Twitter user @AngeloMelas (now banned) calling Leaving Neverland supporter Oprah Winfrey a “coon”.

Fyre C Melas (@AngeloMelas) exact words were:

"Fuck her. She's a coon doing the white man's work. I hate this bitch."

Bills TV Talk

Charles Thomson, despite being a British citizen, where the word “coon” is most definitely a racist slur wasn’t prepared to condemn this comment, instead chose to defend it by stating:

"That tweet has two different meanings, depending on the race of the individual who posted it. I do not know Fyre’s race so I cannot comment on the appropriateness of the tweet."

Charles Thomson Twitter

Bill’s TV Talk (@BillsTVTalk) challenges Charles Thomson’s comment:

"So you're now defending someone using that word to describe Oprah Winfrey? Are you serious?"

Are you serious?

@CEThomson replies:

"Within the African American community, that word does not mean the same thing it as within the white community. From a white person, it’s a racial slur. From an African American, it’s a synonym for ‘Uncle Tom’. I wouldn’t presume to lecture an African American on race & language."

Within the African American community

@CEThomson further adds:

"I have no idea whether Fyre is black and therefore have no idea of the context/meaning of her tweet."

I have no idea whether Fyre is black

Bill’s TV Talk (@BillsTVTalk) replies:

"Fyre isn't black. And besides the racial slur, I think the rest of the tweet is equally as reprehensible. Or do you need context for that too?"

Fyre isn't black

Charles Thomson (@CEThomson) replies:

"How do you know whether or not she is black? She says she is."

She says she is

Charles Thomson then posts a screenshot picture of @AngeloMelas claiming to be a black.

Bill’s TV Talk (@BillsTVTalk) replies:

"He said it, it must be true right? Funny that you'll believe him and not a victim of sexual abuse. Very telling."

@BillsTVTalk makes a great point how Charles Thomson was so willing to accept @AngeloMelas claim, but the thirty-something-year-old journalist doesn’t want to believe any of Jackson’s accusers, despite all of them spending dozens to hundreds of one-on-one nights in bed with a man who clearly had an unhealthy interest in them.

BillsTVTalk makes a great point

No further replies were given by Charles Thomson.

Whether or not the word “coon” is racist or not, based on another person’s race, or location in the world is irrelevant. Fyre C Melas (@AngeloMelas) was clearly a vile individual who was deliberately attacking Oprah Winfrey because of her support of James Safechuck and Wade Robson. No ifs or buts. His or her account was banned because of their vile language, yet if Charles Thomson took five minutes to look at his or hers tweets, he would have seen that, but instead he chose not to, because all Jackson stans have to stick together, right?

Here’s the double standards

Everything Charles Thomson stated above, has been contradicted by himself in the past. He’s actually accused people, including myself, of being racist for using the term Jacko when describing Michael Jackson.

Charles Thomson stated

This is a quote from Wikipedia:

"Jacco Macacco was a fighting ape or monkey who was exhibited in monkey-baiting matches at the Westminster Pit in London in the early 1820s. He achieved some measure of fame among the sporting community through his reputed prodigious record of victories against dogs, but was brought to wider attention by depiction in popular literature, artworks and by citation in speeches to Parliament by the animal welfare campaigner Richard Martin. Jacco's most famous fight, against the equally well-known bitch Puss, seems to have marked the end of his career: he may have died as a result of injuries received during the match or of an unrelated illness sometime afterwards. His ashes are housed at the True Crime Museum in Hastings, East Sussex."

Yes, Charles Thomson (as well as many MJ stans) have actually pulled up an animal cruelty story from the 1820s, which may or may not be true, just to label anybody who calls Jackson “Jacko” as a racist.

Back to reality. In the present day “Jacko” is a nickname for anybody whose name is Jack, or surname Jackson.  Just like somebody whose name is Dave or Steve will be referred to as Dave-o or Steve-o.

Jacko

I can’t imagine the British tabloids could have gotten away with labelling Jackson as Jacko for at least a couple of decades, if it was a derogatory or racist term.

Channel 5 even have a TV programme called Police Interceptors, where one of the officers, who surname is Jackson is repeatedly referred to as Jacko.

Channel 5

Again, I can’t imagine Channel 5 nor the police using a racist term on prime-time television, can you?

So yeah, you can at least according to Charles Thomson call a black woman a “coon” and use various derogatory language providing you are black yourself, but you cannot, under any circumstances refer to Michael Jackson as Jacko.

Welcome to the world of Jacko’s wackos once again.
